When I was a kid I often threw tantrums.
I got into feverish rages and set out to destroy.
This took the form of tearing the house apart...
Throwing things and screaming until I was panting on the floor.
Later on, it took hours to clean up the mess.
In my adult years, not much has changed.
Although I try to control it, I still get enraged...
but the tantrums take on another form.
I shifted from destroying the house to destroying relationships.
My rages take the form of judgments, condemnation, and emotional abandonment...
Cleaning up the mess now takes years instead of hours.
Awareness is the first step towards change.
